Another year, come and gone, with no plastic balls hit.

Well, I've done it...officially. I have gone a full year without playing a game of Blitzball or Wiffleball. I'm officially a pile. I've had tons of projects around the new house and have set out space in the pasture for a ball field, however, it's simply not been built yet. Hoping that next summer will bring the first season to "the farm" (that's what we call the new place).

I'm now accepting ideas for the new field. My thought is that it'll face Southeast to avoid the evening glare in the batter's eyes. Who am I kidding though, it doesn't get dark in NW Montana until 11pm in the summer, so we should be good to go for just about any game during that time. I've gotta kill some pasture grass and begin the transfer to turf grass so I'll need to install irrigation on the fence, which should be able to cover most of the short field. Maybe 120 foot fences to accommodate both Blitzball and Wiffleball. You may have noticed that I'm leaning Blitzball nowadays, and here's why. With kids learning to throw baseballs in practice, I gravitate toward giving them a toy ball that allows for the same mechanics to yield similar results as a baseball. Wiffle is all about alignment of the spinning axis of the ball, but Blitzball is so similar to throwing a baseball I think it can actually be almost a training tool for kids and adults. If you're competitive and have any number of adults that think they're still 18, Blitzball translates incredibly well for them too. It's a win-win, so that's the deal.

I hope that the past year brought you more plastic bat and ball sports than it brought me, but rest assured, I haven't forgotten about you, I merely needed to finish the chicken coop...the eggs don't lay themselves!

Snow ≠ Plastic Ball Games

Instead of playing backyard ball, I got these new stunner shades to up my game. My wife tells me I'm an idiot...she's not wrong. Also, I'm sitting on a box of "small baseball" gloves to try out, but considering that there's legitimately a foot of snow on the ground that's covered in an insane crust of ice, my in tact bones thank me for not putting together a new video. Might have to do it over the next week or so just inside so you can see just how good John has gotten at making these things. Impressive stuff.

What do you all have going on in Winter with regard to backyard stick sports? Anything? Let me know.

Well...I am back...but hey, that's something, right?!?

I've been out of the game for too long. I bought a new house with plenty of space for a ball field, I have some friends all over the country doing amazing things with the backyard game, and I'm ready to get this mess going again. I've completely re-built the site, and I still just want to help you all find what you need for backyard bat and ball sports. Message me, comment on stuff, make suggestions, and I'm more excited to get this thing back than ever. Let's have it, kids, it's SAHDwiffle time!

It isn't going to be perfect right out of the gate. Re-building this thing is no joke for amount of work necessary, but I'll add things as I get to them from the old site. Have particular interest in something, let me know. Just an FYI though, I now live in Montana where we won't see the grass again until about April. Keep me entertained over the Winter!

New Digs, New Possibilities

Upgrade! Just moved from Colorado to Montana. With the change comes a small farm, which includes enough space to get creative with the building of a new plastic bat/ball sports field. What are your thoughts? Ideas? Shoot them this way! I’d love to hear about them!

See the green house, that’s the new place, the picture is taken from the far corner of our property, so we have the space to be awesome here, what do you think?

A little rant coming your way here, forgive me.

Plastic bat and ball sports are awesome, I think you’ll agree. Some of the products and amazing, some are good, and some don’t cut the mustard for the type of game that most of us want to play. That’s fine. That’s capitalism, I’m good with that. Here’s something I’m not good with though. It’s the blatant ripoffs. Take for instance the new “as seen on tv” Swerve Ball. You can find it in Target now and let’s be real, it’s an absolute blatant ripoff of the Blitzball. Some jackass decided that since the Blitzball patent was pending, he’d swoop in with a bunch of cash and market the crap out of a ball that is identical for all intents and purposes.

Blitzball has a place in the game. It is markedly different from a Wiffle ball and it’s genuinely a unique concept. Both balls can play nicely in the backyard and they should.

Blitzball was started by a nice and intelligent young dude in a garage in New York. He’s since grown his business he old fashioned way with hard work and this is what he gets for it.

This new Swerve ball is everything I hate about America. Screw you, and your screw ball, guy.

If you want the Blitzball experience, buy a Blitzball, folks. Support the creator.

John has been doing this. He has nearly completed his hand built repertoire of “small baseball” gloves. Each of which is purpose built for the person wearing it. Different sizes, different webs, different materials to ensure that each glove serves its purpose perfectly. Folks, we are talking wizardry here. The man is a genius. As a curiosity, would any one be willing to pay for one of these? Is there interest out there for playing “small baseball?”

My mind just got blown. John is a user with a history of providing neat things for us. He’s given us a formula devised to create wiffle sized fields out of big league dimensions, a bunch of stadium draw ups for people curious on how large to build replicas, a hand made child’s wiffle glove, and now this.

John, seriously, great work dude. What a novel concept and one that I would be very excited to explore once I come across a few more friends in Colorado!

New Site Look, Same Good Stuff

Alright alright…I know, I’m a slacker. Yada yada yada. However, hopefully you can appreciate the new site look and ease of navigation. My computer is back in action! I know the seasons are wrapping up all over the place, but I’ve still got a chance to get you some bat info, so look for that.

You could be of tremendous help with this new setup. I’ve changed site hosts, and with that I’ve changed email hosts. The only email account associated with SAHDwiffle is now info@sahdwiffle.com . If you’ve previously been in contact with chad@sahdwiffle.com or casey@sahdwiffle.com or jason@sahdwiffle.com, erase those from your address book. There is ONE EMAIL and it is info@sahdwiffle.com . Use it, know it, learn it, love it….oh, and send me a test email of it, would you?!?

The new site will roll out over the next couple of days worldwide, but some people may get it sooner than others, no bickering, just be patient. Hopefully I’ve got it all figured out. As far as that new Nerf video goes, I’ve recovered all the footage, and cut it, just need to do my talkover and post, so look for that really soon.

So, one of my ram chip slots decided to take a five and the only replacement is a new logic board! Yay! Anyway, that’s my excuse for being a lame duck. Once the computer is back, I’ll get the fire vision review up and we will be back in business. On a side note, our host has been a bit spotty, so many reviews and emails haven’t made it through it seems. I’m working on it. Man, who knew that I’d have so many people wanting more wiffle goodness when I went down. Anyone want to take over a website!!?!

First, it was the 3d Google Sketchups of the historic fields, then it was deriving his own equation to convert baseball field dimensions into wiffle field dimensions, and finally it was the cloth mockup of a child’s glove.

Now, it’s this.

Dude’s got some skills. Check out the attention to detail, the lacing, the cuts, it’s absolutely excellent. I’m not sure if he’s ever going to sell them, but I’d start saving your pennies now if you’d want one for the future. So, John, how about an adult version?!?
